our short movie

In a vibrant yet dystopian Dubai, Carol is an aspiring writer trapped in a monotonous 9-to-5 job. Her boss, Mr. Brown demands for perfection weighs heavily on her, making her feel that only flawless work can lead to success. Her carefree boyfriend, Nicolas, embodies a different approach to life, encouraging her to embrace spontaneity and authenticity. This contrast often sparks conflict, as Carol struggles to reconcile her perfectionism with his laid-back attitude. Despite her frustrations, Carol remains determined to pursue her writing dreams, regularly submitting scripts to competitions in hopes of a breakthrough. However, after facing repeated rejections and a particularly explosive argument with Nicolas, she spirals into despair. Feeling lost and discouraged, she questions her worth and considers giving up. In a moment of vulnerability, Carol seeks support from her close friend Sara, who helps her realize that embracing her imperfections is key to finding her true voice. Inspired, Carol begins to write a new script that reflects her genuine experiences, celebrating the beauty of flaws rather than hiding them. As she embarks on this journey of self-discovery, Carol learns that true creativity comes from authenticity. The film culminates in her newfound confidence as she shares her story and receives a chance to make her dreams come true, reminding us that it's okay to be imperfect and that embracing our flaws can lead to empowerment and genuine connection.

“Una fábula sencilla con dosis cinefilia, desenfado e inocencia construye una metáfora de uno de los pecados que nos asolan en el presente. Un Dubay omnipresente, una actriz por momentos hipnótica. Recomiendo.”

“A simple fable with a dose of cinephilia, ease and innocence builds a

metaphor for one of the sins that plague us today. An omnipresent Dubay,

an actress who is at times hypnotic. I recommend it.”

Music “Everyone has flaws”

director's note

Making this film healed the part of me that needed healing, and I hope other people can heal themselves too. The film “Everyone has flaws you just happen to know mine” is an observational journey into the psychological conflicts that many artists face. The eternal search for perfection, the internal struggle between keeping a stable job or making a living from art, and the difficulties faced in being accepted in the artistic market are the main themes addressed in the film. The idea for the film began when my wife and I finally decided to give voice to our artistic passion for acting and cinema. After meeting in the theater in 2013 and spending 10 years chasing money and stability, now that we were mature and stable, we sold our apartment, my wife quit her job, and we decided to invest everything in a film that would give us a voice. We had no film experience, we had done small productions for the internet and a dusty film degree from 10 years ago. We had no partners, apart from a few friends in an artistically limited Dubai, but we didn’t want just any production like the ones being made in the city. It was then that we made the decision to make this film in the best way we could, but always careful not to seek perfection, only the best we could. The Journey begins, we invested our resources in the minimum necessary equipment, my wife immersed herself in the world of writing, reading the main titles on script writing, and I immersed myself in the world of cameras, lenses and lights. Together, in a short time we put together the structure of the idea and refined our learnings. I analyzed the progress in her Cartesian writing and brought the playful part, and she analyzed in a Cartesian way my playful decisions between buying a Black Magic or RED camera. After 6 months, several script edits, and extensive pre-production work, we did it, using our limited resources, a job worthy of a Hollywood filming. We included our main artistic references, we worked on the color palette and textures, spreadsheets and contracts. We found few, but good partners. We were tempted to make it perfect, but we didn't give in. We booked the planned locations and the work began. 3 days of filming, 3 days of a lot of learning. With a minimal crew, we managed to film the story. We were happy, knowing that another stage was over and another was beginning. Post-production was, without a doubt, the biggest challenge for me as a director, convincing myself that all those crazy ideas, which make sense on paper, would make sense on screen. Initially, we invested money in editing, sound and color. Thanks to the incredible networking work of my wife, we had an incredible partner, Chico Gregori, whom, from the beginning of the film, only gave me solutions and not problems. I knew that he would help me tell the story that was in my head in the best way he knew how. However, we had some problems with the editing and color. Initially, an editor and colorist worked on the project, and because it was a different film from what I was used to, the ideas didn't match. I had to edit it again. As for the color, we found a new colorist in Brazil who was more artistic and gave us a feeling that was closer to what we had envisioned for the film, but because the lighting was done in an unconventional way, it still wasn't working. After a lot of study with one of the best teachers of DaVinci, Chris Moura, I managed to learn enough in the program to fix these situations and finally, after almost 2 years, we have a film. The journey was rich and happy. We started this with little experience and today I feel prepared to shoot my next feature film. I look back and am proud. Learning everything from scratch was difficult, but it gave us the lightness of beginners. I hope to carry this with me on my next filmmaking journey. If just one person understands that it is better done than perfect because of my film. And I will be happy. Now we are in this last part, promotion, release, etc. and together, my wife and I, writing all the written documents for a film. A short film produced in Dubai with limited resources. It has already worked.

writer’s note

I plan to make this short and sweet, just like the movie. The reality is that this was a 28 pages script. I’ve taken so much feedback to make my story more round and better and I really appreciate that. instead of talking about what is there, why am I talking about what is not there? There was so much that it wasn’t there. There was less scenes than I originally though, a different beginning, no crew, not that many lights, not a lot of experience. You get that if this wasn’t made with a lot of courage and determination, overlooking many flaws, this movie wouldn’t have been made? This was for experience and practice. It wasn’t the first, but it’s the first officially made, and prepared as much as we could. And this movie is also about that. Believing you can, doing the best you can with what you have. Ok, since is my story, even not delivering perfectly, I will have a happy ending. I hope this translates into real life. I hope people can see through the flaws and realize that what they are watching is unique. It’s someone real, a real story. With some twists and turns, because, this is still movie making and not therapy. It’s definitely deeply personal. I see myself in Carol, I’ve been there. Frustrated because, life is really not that easy, we have to work hard to get what we dream, and we must not blame it on others. But we do, it’s always someone else’s fault that we didn’t, but it’s not true. And when we face reality and take responsibilities, maybe something good happens. I’m hoping for the best with this movie. I rest assured that, no It’s not perfect, but it’s a part of me, and like everything I do, I tried to put my best on it. I hope someone can see it too.
